EJUSA is one of many nonprofits, research institutions, substance use organizations, and victim advocacy groups being targeted by the #Trump #DepartmentOfJustice ( #DOJ ). Our funding may have been cut, but we refuse to back down.

April is #SecondChanceMonth. At EJUSA, we reject the framing that lifelong punishment is justice. Communities cannot adequately heal if people cannot access jobs, housing, and social services after incarceration.

Oklahoma intends to execute #TremaneWood, a young Black man, soon for his role in a robbery despite not killing anyone. The confessed killer – Tremane’s violent and abusive older brother – received a life sentence.

We talked about the value of intergenerational learning and upcoming legislation that will incarcerate more young people. The youth were engaged, vocal, and even had the chance to read their heroes’ bios while in the same room with them. There was spoken word, musical performances, and more!

South Baton Rouge is one of Louisiana's most historic civil rights neighborhoods but also one of its most disadvantaged. On Saturday, we honored Baton Rouge’s civil rights leaders while bringing youth together to discuss passing the torch, continuing the legacy, and being part of the change.
