The young man who sees ghosts but has to keep it mostly to himself. The ex-art thief with all the good plans, the crusty policeman with a relationship to the art thief.

It gets pretty wild because many of the hybrids came out of a secret Earth genetics lab deep in the jungle on one of the planets. Other races were just as they developed on their own planets.

This is a fun, light read with interesting complications. There is a talking cat, so cat lovers will enjoy the books.

E J says... This is definitely epic military fantasy along the lines of Brandon Sanderson. Vast landscapes and big stories. Dragons of various types, and the people who live and bleed in these uncertain and changing times. These are stories you can get lost in. The main character in the first book is a teenage girl, who wants desperately to be a dragon rider.

E J says: Elodie Evergreen's investigative journalism led her to fangs and a nocturnal existence. She snags a position on the Ravens Hollow Oracle. As soon as she arrives, she plunges right into a murder mystery that occurs just as she is arriving. She proves to the skeptical head editor that she can grab onto a story like a bulldog. …

E J says... Lorelei Clay moved to a huge house on a hill surrounded by a moat because she wanted to keep to herself. It's hard when you are the reborn in human form goddess Melinoe, in charge of nightmares and ghosts, among other things. She must always try to keep her power under wraps. As is typical in these things, her plans do not materialize.

E J says... I read books 1-6, and they are all fun and action packed. But I read #6 most recently. Brad Mendoza is the captain of a crew of misfits. He personally is a nice guy, and the oft times idiot grin on his face hides a brilliant strategic and tactical mind. In his bio, Ramirez says he avoids swearing and graphic scenes so his books are available to anyone, including his two teenagers.

E J says... This starts out as a fine military science fiction book with a lot of action. The main character instantly stamps his personality on the page with his ingenuity in response to an alien invasion of Earth. Another set of aliens jumps in and saves Earth. He goes to fight as infantry in their war, but begins to realize he may be fighting on the wrong side.

E J says... I have found my new favorite series. Murderbot is a construct, actually a SecUnit or security unit, comprised of both organic and inorganic materials. He along with other SecUnits are for rent or sale. Murderbot, as he has named himself, figures out how to hack and disable his generator, the device on the back of his neck that tells him what to do and can punish him if he acts out on his own.

E J says... Anderle ticks the boxes of the typical vampire tropes and then twists them. Drink blood? Sure, but only of the synthetic variety. Super sensitive to sun? Certainly, but he has medication for that. Live a long time? Yes, but he has gotten super bored, so now he is seeking employment. She is the CEO of a start-up security firm but is having trouble attracting customers who are wary of a female in this business.

E J says... I read the title and had to get the ebook. Yes, this is so funny in places. I chortled every time the retired spook signed into his AA (Assassins Anonymous) Zoom meeting and declared how many days had elapsed since he had killed anyone. But on to the story. This is a good mystery that keeps up the suspense and the detecting to the very end.

E J says... If you like geeky humor and characters that have strange interests, then almost anything by Buroker is a delight to read. I always laugh at the humor. Her main characters are always so human even when they are paranormal. OK, maybe I mean understandable. In this story, Kaylina Korbian wants to open a meadery in the nation's capital.
