The High Seas Treaty is a huge, positive step forward.

We welcome @kerrymp.bsky.social and other MP’s support of this bill – now is the time to act decisively to ratify the bill and commit to transparency at sea, to make real progress for our ocean and human rights.

For too long, the ocean has been plundered of its resources, impacting vital ecosystems, coastal communities, and the global carbon cycle.

The lack of legal protections and transparency at sea has also led to overfishing and illegal fishing, which is often tied to forced and slave labour at sea.

British consumers want and deserve better. Now is the time for stronger import controls.

The new report “Criminal catches”, reveals that since Brexit, critical checks on imported seafood have collapsed to almost zero.

This has left the UK effectively blind to whether products entering the market are tied to forced, bonded or slave labour or environmental crimes.

Freshwater wetlands are irreplaceable carbon vaults and vital homes for people and wildlife.

From including wetlands into national climate commitments to delivering finance for their protection and restoration, wetlands must be integrated into climate action at the upcoming #COP30 and beyond.

Peatlands cover just 3-4% of the Earth’s land surface, but they contain as much carbon as all of the world’s forests and store up to ⅓ of the world’s soil carbon.

Despite this, wetlands are disappearing three times faster than forests, releasing vast stores of carbon accumulated over millennia.

Indigenous and traditional peoples in impacted biomes bear the brunt of the climate crisis they did not cause.

It is critical that these women working to protect the Pantanal have their voices heard. We look forward to continuing to work with them and bring their expertise to the global stage.
