RNA biologist, entrepreneur, artist, activist, and mom. I love the place I live, but I hate the systems in charge.
It's good that we stand up for ourselves. It's good we stand up for Science, against this malestrom of cruelty and stupidity.

Let this moment radicalize and reconnect us.

We had these amazing scientists talking about losing their funding and how they can't do the work that helps society —but also brings them comfort, security, and acclaim.

Does the danger of losing our privilege rekindle awareness of our connection to other working class struggles?

If you don't protest when other people are under attack, why would you expect them to protest when you are finally the one on the chopping block?

Solidarity doesn't start the day YOU need something.

So, I understand why scientists don't often protest in the streets, if every issue turned our heads, then we would lose some of that focus that our work requires.

But. When the people on stage say, "I've never come out to protest before", they are letting you know how disconnected they are.

On the one hand, it was so nice to go to the Stand Up for Science event in San Francisco and see so many brilliant and creative people and their hilarious signs.

Science requires dedication and focus and it's hard to tear yourself away from your experiments. You can lose momentum.

Reality is socially constructed. Republicans (following and falling in line with right wing media) understand this as a strategy rather than a descriptive theory. Democrats don’t yet get it.

San Francisco folks I'll see you there

I linked DOGE staffer Marko Elez to a deleted X account that advocated repealing the Civil Rights Act, backed a “eugenic immigration policy,” and wrote, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity."

He just resigned. www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

I'm pretty sure my psychiatrist is herself a crazy person.

I told her the state of the world is stressing me out & she said "at least Trump got rid of student loans" I said he's creating chaos in science so he can attack transfolk & she said, "maybe it'll work out well for you!"

Props to the protesters.
Yes, Kennedy is obviously a fraud, but he is also fooling people, so it needs to be mentioned constantly.

Everyone wants a chance to play with a new toy for themself

However, I think that's especially true of patent lawyers, because of all the possible legal fields they chose the one with inventions.

This grocery run feels like the beginning of a disaster movie - when the shelves are mostly still full of food & people are going about their normal lives. There's no eggs. In the background, the news is showing the richest man in the world doing a Nazi salute in front of a row of billionaires.

"a government of billionaires for billionaires"
On his first day in office, President Trump clearly signaled, with an onslaught of executive orders, his intent to dismantle decades worth of science-based public health and environmental protections for the American people while propping up polluting industries’ interests.

I finished the CAD design for the latest prototype yesterday afternoon & emailed the file to my 3D printer friend. A few hours later I get a time lapse video of my creation coming into being.

Everyone talks about how rapid prototyping is good business practice, but no one talks about how fun it is.

I've been learning about B corporations, and I'm interested in hearing from people who structured their business that way.

How did you raise funding?
Actually, I wanna know everything.

In this toddler season of my life, I am grateful for children's book authors who sincerely attempt to create quality literature for brand new humans

No other genre gets this kind of aggressive re-reading

Ok, so what's the vibe on this app? Tumblr, Twitter, TikTok, Myspace, meta, vine, all totally different vibes of social media. of course you influence your feed, but you gotta choose from what's available.

What's available here?

Like many people, I'm on this app as a digital refugee from other platforms that gradually slid into toxicity. I find myself struggling to start over - rebuilding the communities and conversations that were years in the making.

Anyone else finding it hard to invest in this new online space?
