Absolutely, humanity requires such concepts to not fall into the despair, the reality that we truly might not have anyone. It raises the question whether it is better to live in happy delusion or harsh reality as each has its downsides

We will have to bear the growing pains of religion vs. science

The concept of God IMO is a very religious concept which requires a suspension of rational thought (faith) which science directly contradicts (but this is just a comment, not here to argue since this topic isn't that important to me, being an atheist)
