The city pictures in the second part are Tokyo, you can recognize the Tokyo city office, a Taito arcade and Ginza. I don’t know how the ff’s characters end up in Tokyo 🤔

I don’t see the extra hard fight you get to do once you clear the DD as a chance to the DD itself, more as additional content, and the changes to the actual DD are more to make the clear for casual players (more checkpoints).
