Anti-fascist, Software Engineer, Science Lover, European --- I am posting here as a pressure valve for my thoughts. Tax the rich!
The performances of Chase Infiniti and DiCaprio moved me to tears at least twice.

They will own the Oscars....

I' argue that democracy is stronger today. It may appear weak because people take it for granted. But it is no longer just a means to an end. The response to anti-democratic trends is also delayed. Democracy is still fragile. We now have more to lose than we realised back then.

Do you mean in Europe, where weak democracies have collapsed? Does that not instantly disprove your point?

Democracy was much weaker in the 1920-40s. There was greater polarisation between forces pulling towards communism and fascism. Democracy was the weak compromise.

Trump's tomb. Johnson will be there too, mourning at the golden sarcophagus.

I am waiting for the presidential pyramid. He wants to be buried in one, together with his gold and his lackeys.

The big problem is financing. Democrats won't be able to bring a bill that also raises taxes again. So the only way is to raise debt. And then Republicans can weaponize that. They might accept that bill. But there goes the 'financial responsibility' argument the Dems had on the 'Big Beautiful Bill'.

That's also a trap that the yielding Democrats just walked in.

Democrats MUST bring a healthcare proposal now. And if Republicans vote it down, then there will be another fight in January! And Democrats can then point to the Republicans' blatant hypocrisy.

The real danger is the Republicans accepting the proposal. That would take this issue away from the Dems.

Keeping that fortified position on the shutdown while people ARE hungry could easily have backfired. Don't assume that voters who decide on a presidential candidate at the last minute will solely blame the Republicans.

Wouldn't it be bad for Democrats if Republicans just accept any healthcare proposal? Republicans would not need to come up with their own plan and they deny Democrats this to be an effective campaign issue.

From the Republican POV: What's another trillion on top the deficit....
