Yes, free allocations do not support innovation as much as other solutions, but they avoid production moving to other places, where specific emissions are 20 to 40% higher for the same product (carbon leakage!). And the CBAM is already scheduled to replace those with another-better-compromise.

This article is the worst kind of attention-grabbing rubbish out there. Instead of explaining why these things happen and how the EU is already on the move to rectifying some of it’s sub-optimal ETS design decisions, it presents a very one-sided idealistic pov showing little understating of context.

Ich würde Sie ohne mit der Wimper zu Zucken wählen, aber leider sind die Wahl-Unterlagen nie in Neuseeland angekommen. Ich höre ähnliches von Bekannten aus den USA. Ziemliches Chaos diese vorgezogenen Wahlen… warum kann man nicht einfach die Botschaften zu Wahllokalen umfunktionieren?

Now, I do agree that we have to be mindful of consumption, but being based in New Zealand, it crushes my soul to see that our answer to reducing concrete is fostering huge monoculture plantations of exotic timber, breaking several other planetary boundaries on the altar of climate change.
