Just your everyday reclusive mystic. They/them.
That was such a lovely read. Congratulations to both you and your wife for finding each other 💟 from a non-binary queer who also met their partner in drama class as a young teenager (and celebrated 20 years together in December). 🙂

To that, I will say that I have never in my life, potentially barring some infant shenanigans, had a regular 8 PM-4 AM sleep schedule. 9 PM-5 AM, yes, I did that for probably a year or so.😜

I suspect a lot of people historically would disagree, for example the Spanish Jews (cf. Massacre of 1391, Expulsion of Jews in 1492).

But, certainly, if Catholicism in Spain had indeed been 'universal', the country would probably have had a lot less religious persecution…

I can only assume satirically incomprehensible gets a higher score. This is a bit what some people sounded like where I lived in Scotland (the next county over):

With a rule like that, you must send the best nudes. 😁

It looks like the end result is going to be pretty spectacular, though!

It is literally the distance from my house to the rubbish bin that has been designated as "mine" (shared between several households) and back home again. Mate did a countryside "take out the trash" walk and tweeted about his blister.

For one thing, ordering "the chicken satay without chicken" is not a complete vegetarian meal.

Secondly, forcing your guests to ask for special treatment if they want to participate isn't particularly friendly. It's a concession.

I'm just going to leave this little gem here…
(English captions are available—that's the actual Norwegian national team at the time, but obviously it's all satire)

A worthwhile investment.

Aside from the possibility of referencing thoughts that need to be extinguished, it also brings to mind (for me anyway) the urgency associated with having a precious human existence… not sleeping on what's a microscopically unlikely chance to change your fate/help the world.

I've never seen or heard that particular phrasing before, but I agree that it wouldn't be anything good. 😅

Some miracles are even cautionary tales. “Completely true” story I’ve heard someone tell about one of their guru’s other students: he got so comfortable with shamatha that he didn’t want to do vipassana… until he accidentally meditated in the woods for 12 months straight before someone found him.

I don’t know what makes something a miracle tale specifically, but I’ve found other kinds miraculous events fairly common in Tibetan contexts. Everyone swears they saw rainbows around such and such guru or that he levitated. High lamas dying today emanating heat for days after death. Etc.

You probably have. Tibetan Vajrayana has plenty if tales of magic being used to instil devotion to the path. The stories I’ve heard myself refer to events several centuries in the past, though.

This is AWESOME!
November 23, 2023 at 8:22 AM
RIGHT?! If it's not supposed to be this way, then why aren't you more alarmed and determined to figure out what is wrong?
November 17, 2023 at 2:01 PM
We'd come suuuuch a long way with just a little bit more humility about what we might not know about the human body.

There's far too much of that in the medical field. I had peritonsillar abscesses (basically, throat boils) that had to be drained daily for a week… and this doctor straight up questions my half-screaming when he cuts the inside of my swollen throat, because I "shouldn't have nerves there".

"Small" organisation projects like these always take way too long time, and they're always worth it. 👍
