Hi all. One of my students, who is really *extremely* good, is fighting to stay at UMaine (and the country more generally) after her sponsor withdrew support. She's been working a bunch of jobs in parallel, but could really use the help, if you are able. gofund.me/ea87d909

The Washington Post is surprisingly horny today. Also, how big is this guy's office? And he claims to champion small government.

Friday, in a professional capacity, I had a conversation about wood turtle genitalia. Today, I am working on this slide for a lecture. This is a pretty good job, really. (Unparliamentary language is one of the best wiki articles, btw)

"We were unable to include you among the semi-finalists" is a really weird way to frame a rejection letter. Unable? Like, did Baba Yaga place a geas on you?

Please do not post signs to this bike rack. It inconveniences cyclists and perpetuates a grotesque sense of ennui.

I am not a big alma mater guy, but seeing UMaine aggressively advertising in the Harvard subway station does make me want to loudly sing the stein song in front of the next business major I see.

Doing some early modern work, and had a moment of confusion when I couldn't remember whether it was the queen or the queen mother of France who was the Infante of Spain, and realized it was both of them, and man, if you would enforce those consanguinity laws it would make my life much easier.

Re rabbit discourse: I am a medieval historian, and I use this desk fan. It is a century old, and if you leave it going an hour, it turns into a convection heater because the motor overheats. What about me makes you think I make smart, safe life choices?

Having asked for separate essays on research, teaching, and DEI, this application would now *also* like me to write a cover letter, and I'm damned if I know what it should say. Like, some sort of poetic prologue?
