One nice thing about present politics: it will make it much easier to explain why the liberum veto of the Polish-Lithianian Commonwealth is not widely held to have been a super bright idea.

I am not a big alma mater guy, but seeing UMaine aggressively advertising in the Harvard subway station does make me want to loudly sing the stein song in front of the next business major I see.

Doing some early modern work, and had a moment of confusion when I couldn't remember whether it was the queen or the queen mother of France who was the Infante of Spain, and realized it was both of them, and man, if you would enforce those consanguinity laws it would make my life much easier.

Re rabbit discourse: I am a medieval historian, and I use this desk fan. It is a century old, and if you leave it going an hour, it turns into a convection heater because the motor overheats. What about me makes you think I make smart, safe life choices?

Having asked for separate essays on research, teaching, and DEI, this application would now *also* like me to write a cover letter, and I'm damned if I know what it should say. Like, some sort of poetic prologue?
