When a dog growls, it's giving a warning. It's saying, "Stop doing that, or I'll bite you!"
EG, if a child touches the dog's food bowl, the dog may growl. The kid starts a game of teasing the dog and making him growl. Calmly remove the child and teach him what the dog is saying.

It's not a good idea to give a puppy as a gift at Christmas. Rather give a book about the breed. Once puppies are grown, they are no longer puppies and the recipient may grow tired of the adult dog.
