(asking because 9/10 resources that talk about scrupulosity seem to treat it as something that only churchgoers get, when I don't think I know a single person whose scrupulosity is framed by their faith)

Sucks, doesn't it?

Also if you go googling and you happen to stumble across any resources that treat scrupulosity outside of a religious context feel free to lmk because I have scrupulosity *and* religious faith and they've pretty much never intersected lol

I've redrafted what I'm trying to explain a few times but basically: this is not about actions. How leftists act to other leftists, or to outsiders, is separate from the purpose of this thread. Everything here is about how individual leftists act to themselves, inside their heads. /2, fin

Respectfully, this is not what this thread is about. I get how it could be read that way, because it's incredibly hard to say what I'm going for in terms that don't boil down to what you just said. I was worried I had fucked it up. /1

THANK YOU this is precisely why I wrote this thread lmfao

To be clear, again, it's self-"driving", this thread isn't going to be "manipulative cancellers driving our good honest majority group leftists into conniptions". This is entirely about internal motivation.

Also my head is foggy. Coming back later.

This is also not going to be about how moral OCD is driving the left to be too extreme. “Extreme” is great; we are bitdizzy adherents in this house. What is at issue is the manner of the “driving,” which I think may lead to faster burnout and eventual resentment-induced quietism or heel turns.

I want to be clear, in the first instance, that this is not a critique of some systematic issue on the left. This is an off the cuff thread about a type of individual internal suffering I am starting to think is probably more widespread than I believed.

Medicare and companion utilities including the NDIS are not sufficiently funded because the Albanese Labor Government, like its recent predecessors from both major blocs, have no interest in adequately funding them.

Respectfully, I got that impression from being a low-income Medicare user.

They are not "having trouble keeping up". They have plenty of money which they're blowing on obsolete nuclear submarines for which there is no pressing case.

The next election cycle isn't for a while so nobody's announced their campaign yet. There are two independents, who I suspect will both ultimately vote in favour of a bathroom ban, but the margin between the LNP and the ALP is large enough that it's unlikely 2 MPs will decide it

If this makes it to the bill stage, doesn't die in committee, and the LNP votes as a bloc, then it will pass. The scenario in which it doesn't pass is if we get LNP floor crossers like we did federally with the Religious Discrimination Bill a couple of years back, but it would take a lot of them.

4. They would need to get it through parliament. Current bloc balance is LNP+KAP 55, ALP+QG 36, IND 2. I don't have a read on either of the independents; Bolton seems very receptive to TERF feedback but possibly in a naive way, Sullivan is ex-Labor for bad reasons but that could mean anything.

On the other hand, many more people know a trans person in general, meaning this bill has a more visible social impact. So the LNP needs to feel that the resistance to this bill will not be either sufficiently large or sufficiently high-intensity to pose a political or material threat.
