Naming is sometimes called the hardest thing in software engineering, only semi-jokingly, and I think that extends to lots of things!

It's hard to think of a good name for a BASIC interpretation of an existing game and I don't want to just put "eigen" in front of everything (like I did for Eigenblitz). I think I've thought of a good name for the game I'm currently working on though, which even has BASIC BEEPs based on the OST

Today I have been POKEing to change the colour of a character instead of redrawing using: POKE 22528 + row + 32*column, value. I saw a list of useful POKEs once I’d love to try a few more

I was wondering why my GO SUB that loaded m/c routines didn’t RETURN and it was because I was CLEARing inside the routine which loses the return address. One of those kick yourself moments #sinclairbasic

The track data is in DATA and I’m READing 3 vars each loop without an array thinking it was like using an iterator i.e. the position is maintained until the next lap RESTORE. Apparently I’m wrong about that which is a shame

BEEPing an array of 36 notes to try to sound a bit like musical sound shower how I remembered it. Listening to the OST it’s quite different but not BEEPable so I might have just invented a jaunty ditty for my Sinclair BASIC racing game

Turns out you can use pasmo to assemble Z80 into hex then write a script to convert that into DATA statements and POKEs. Append that to a zmakebas file (no line numbers) and you’re essentially assembling Z80 into Sinclair BASIC. Pretty cool

I’m defo going to watch the new silent hill film because the sh2 remake was so good it’s like a reference point for other things. Things that don’t necessarily make sense but have a very creepy vibe

After years of programming language cargo cults it’s so nice to come back to a 1982 BASIC and just work with what it gives you. I feel like it’s changed my general outlook in fact

- press alt and space together
- use the keys (no mouse) to select “move”
- now use the mouse to reposition

Really enjoyed the 2000ad documentary on prime. I used to always buy that and the megazine even from 9-10, which were both quite dark compared to everything else but amazing stories and art. Had a big influence on me
