Last night again “Big Night” For 23 consecutive years, my family and I have enjoyed the incredible one-night event of the Spotted and Jefferson Salamanders' breeding season. #BigNight #fingerlakesregion #NY #SpottedSalamander #Salamander #Amphibians

A flock of 7 #EasternBluebirds (Sialia sialis) last night on a nest-box, used by some of them for the past 21 years an counting. The week has been very cold in NY state. -14C, snowy and windy up to 56 km/h winds. Average temperature for this time of the year. Eating dry mealworms.

Illegal #deforestation must be prevented in #Mexico. Great efforts have been made, but there is still room for improvement. To avoid cutting forest lands, #avocado plantations must be stopped at higher elevations.

The three countries must:

Improved #agricultural practices, including the removal of #herbicide use (#glyphosate), and urban development have drastically reduced milkweed availability.

Wide-spectrum #pesticides, such as #Neonicotinoids, Pyrethroids, which kill adults and larvae, must be stopped.

The #Monarch #Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, a #UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the mountains of central #Mexico, is crucial for the survival of the eastern population of the Monarch butterfly during its migration from #Canada and the #UnitedStates to their wintering grounds.
