I recently came across the new Child Protection course from Harvard University, and I was struck by its clarity and urgency. Even for someone who has lived this work, it was a powerful reminder: we must keep learning, because the risks to children keep evolving.

✍🏽Preventing violence - not just outside, but inside the very institutions meant to help them.

Protection means:

✍🏽Guarding against abuse - emotional, physical, and sexual that skyrockets in unstable environments.
✍🏽Shielding from exploitation - including child labor, early marriage, trafficking, and the horrors of armed recruitment.

We must remember that in emergencies, children face far more than just the loss of education. They are vulnerable to recruitment, sexual assault, trafficking, physical violence, and abandonment.

Yes, children need to learn but first, they need to be #safe. That’s why integrating Child Protection into Education in Emergencies isn’t just a best practice but it’s a moral and operational imperative. In many conflict zones, the classroom is the only structured space left for children.

Teachers who truly understand their subjects can inspire meaningful change through education.
