The cancellation of the triennial Berkshire Conference of Women Historians, founded in 1930, is shocking & enraging. Northwestern University was the host. And no other university will now host this major event? What about a Canadian university? #BigBerks2026

Revolutionary anarchist feminist Louise Michel died 120 years ago today in Marseille. Exhausted by an anti-imperialist propaganda tour of Algeria, she spent her final days in simple rooms near the train station, accompanied by partner Charlotte Vauvelle. A legend in life, she became mythic in death.

Lighting the 8th night on my & my late parents’ menorahs, resting on trivets tiled by my mom when she was pregnant with me 6 decades ago. Sending much-needed light to the world.

Revolutionary anarchist feminist, novelist, poet, ethnographer, theorist, & teacher Louise Michel, born 194 years ago today. Mythologized by the left, vilified by the right, appropriated by the center, she emerges as a caricature. I’m writing a political geography of her life. 🗃️

153 years ago today, Parisian women stepped between French troops & cannon, calling soldiers to recognize their alliance with the people, not the reactionary government. Turning on their leaders, the militaries joined working class Parisians, French leaders fled the city, & the Paris Commune began!🗃️
