There are also ultra-slow rhythms that are usually cut off in LFP and EEG by the amplifier but can be accessed by examining network spiking rate changes. These slow cycles seem to be also the basis functions underlying the fluctuations in pupil size and mice facial motion!

We used the isolated sensory-driven gamma cycles in the mouse V1 to realign trials in visual sensory stim experiments. Compensating for biological jitter, in signal transfer time between retina and V1 across trials, helps to retrieve the undistorted response of the network!

Fluctuation in population spiking is a proxy for changes in the network input with time. If cyclic patterns in different time scales are combined to shape the network input, how to isolate these cycles individually? RNNs do the job despite noise and jitter!

EM field measurements show rhythmic activity patterns in the brain. isoCycle was developed to isolate single cycles of these rhythms directly from “Spiking” activity and it relies on dense recording of high numbers of neurons as well as the power of RNNs in pattern recognition.
