Shoji Ohtomo presented a longitudinal survey study finding that positive urgency was associated with mindless snacking. Low perseverance and high sensation seeking were associated with repeated hedonic snacking, while those with high premeditation tend to maintain the status quo.

Jakob Hedin presented a study of within and between group variation in habit for doing PA. Found that there was variation, but variation in habit wasn’t a predictor of PA frequency - only intention variation was. The work showed the importance of studying within-person fluctuations in habit.

EHPS conference habit highlights, Friday:

Robert Edgren presented a study comparing different habit degradation techniques for self-chosen habits. All were equally effective. Robert concluded that maybe the active ingredient is the same across all those techniques.

EHPS conference habit highlights, Friday:

Ben Gardner highlighted the potential problems that arise from the term ‘habit’ being used by psychologists to refer to associations, and by health researchers to refer to any stable and consistent behavior.
