Loving ML's immigration reporting in general, but this one hit me hard bc it is the exact story of my family. Also from present-day Ukraine, immigrated to the US just before a 1920 pogrom wiped out their town, & the remaining Jews were later killed in the Holocaust

🇺🇦 The reporting trip of a LIFETIME. Grateful to everyone who supported my crazy dream of traveling halfway around the world to my ancestral shtetl in the middle of a warzone. It was worth every air raid alert, drone attack, night spent in the bomb shelter. in awe of the Ukrainian ppl & journalists

Going through some family docs for an upcoming ancestry reporting trip on the other side of the world and found this letter sent to my gma after she became a US citizen. She held on to it until she died. Quite a doc to read in this moment.

The thrust of this piece on the Trump admin's potential instrumentalization of spyware is basically my coverage from 2021-2024. From abortion to immigration, states & agencies across the US have building out an Orwellian surveillance dragnet that is ripe for abuse www.newyorker.com/news/news-de...

#journorequest CA labor folks -- I'm looking for people to talk to about occupational injuries + deaths in CA's construction industry, esp ppl who can talk abt rising rates of overdose fatalities. I've had good convos w ppl on the nat'l level, but am still looking to make headway locally
