I think it was the character growth for me and the way it covered decades so there was greater space to see said growth. So many books seem to tie everything up neatly within a space of weeks or months. Possibly similar would be The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams.

I don't think Americans need outside influence to do crazy things at the moment
