Girard says that culture is formed when people spontaneously unite against a single victim. The war of “each against each” becomes the unity of “all against one”—the principle of the scapegoat. Out of the corpse of the scapegoat victim grows the sacrificial cult which is the origin of every society.

Being disliked is not failure. It’s the price of an authentic life. You cannot please everyone if you’re being yourself.

This was the smart move. Never had a problem voting before but I’m hearing about widespread hours-long lineups. That’s gonna deter the already-low expected turnout.

They lied to you, then took the money you gave them and used it to pay more people to lie to you. I’m a bit suspicious of those who were on the payroll realizing only *now* that the Dems are in on the GOP con.

If the social contract applies to the aggressor, it applies to the victim too. Self-defense isn’t a suspension of morality, it’s the exercise of it. To claim otherwise flips morality on its head and excuses the aggressor while burdening the victim.

Calling my view “insane” or a “sick fantasy” doesn’t strengthen your case; it just shows you can’t defend it on reason.

Yes, we have laws and collective myths that bind us, but denying the elemental right of self-defense is not civility — it is a distortion of it. A society that treats aggressor and victim as morally equivalent betrays the very contract it claims to uphold.
