CA drivers need to be educated that bikes are vehicles. Every time I'm in the East Bay, at least 1 yells out "get off the road." One driver stopped to insist that I should be biking on the sidewalk (and f-bomb me). On the next block was a big yellow "share the road" sign.

In about a month, we went from: "The US doesn't use the military for domestic law enforcement" to "it's an EMERGENCY!!!" to "now we'll have military units for selective domestic law enforcement at the order of the president" #creepingfascism

The Trump administration considering suspension of habeas corpus in response to an "invasion" of illegal immigration is not receiving enough attention. They're trial ballooning claiming the right to jail anyone without any accountability. Without pushback, they'll take it.

Let's consistently call the economic contraction due to the trade war the "Trump Slump" and the tariff-induced inflation "Trumpflation." Make him own it.

Rarely are economic effects so easily attributable to a root cause. R's called Trump's 1st term stock market gains in anticipation of deregulation the "Trump Bump." Use language! (2/3)

Language is important. The Republicans attempted to tarnish Obama by calling the ACA "Obamacare" and it backfired when people saw the benefits of the law. (1/2)

Amazon never had any real intention to display the cost of tariffs on products, but it's not a bad idea. Making political statements on bills is nothing new. In CA, restaurants added a "living wage surcharge" after the minimum wage was raised, as if the cost of labor were not a cost of business.

The trend of the ultrarich and powerful buying and amplifying the far-right "populists" internationally to enrich themselves at everyone else's expense.
Over a Dozen Conservative Party Donors Fund Nigel Farage’s Reform U.K.
A New York Times analysis of campaign finance data also revealed an influx of funding to Nigel Farage’s right-wing party from fossil fuel investors, climate skeptics and multimillionaires.

This is one of the important things falling under the radar because it doesn't have meme-able outrage value: the Trump administration is sabotaging next year's flu vaccine www.cnn.com/2025/02/26/h...

A March meeting of outside advisers to the United States Food and Drug Administration to discuss the composition of flu vaccines for this fall’s flu season has been canceled, a member of the advisory ...

Well I guess Trump surrendering to Russia is at least consistent. If it's OK to grab Greenland, Panama and Canada, it must be fine to grab Ukraine.

50501 Protest in San Jose, CA, Feb 17, 2025. For now, just flexing the protest muscle is important. Later, someone will have to decide what the *simple* demands are and who they will be demanded from.

The only legitimate civil rights work that the Trump admin is allowing to continue is against antisemitism. This is a trap for Jews. Don't fall for it.

I'm old enough to remember when conservatives thought political interference in the Justice Dept was a bad thing.

Prediction 2: Congress capitulates to the power grab. The administration actively favors political corruption, they will not take any anti-corruption laws off the books, instead leaving it up to the loyal DOJ to selectively prosecute.

That's how an authoritarian keeps control of the billionaires.

Prediction 1: "In the interests of global peace, the free flow of trade, and to counter American imperialism, the People's Republic of China and (insert here) have agreed to a pact of mutual aid and defense ...."

Who will it be?

In response to labor cost inflation, restaurants added junk fees like "living wage" surcharges to their bills instead of raising base prices. In response to tariff inflation, will they add "Trump tariff" surcharges?

I have to admit that I didn't understand yesterday's pardon ("online drugs good, Mexican drugs bad!?") until the NYT reported that it was a favor to the crypto bros.

Today's pardon is a bit clearer: "police violence against minorities good."

Police vs Trump bad, for, good. L'etat c'est moi.

SCOTUS: The president is above the law as long as he gives the illegal orders to government officials.
