It’s darker than I would like, but I made pecan pie with unfamiliar ingredients (golden syrup, premade rectangular shortcrust pastry), in an unfamiliar oven (celsius? fan oven? It’s from the 70s and all the numbers have rubbed off the dial?!) So I am pretty proud of these.

Hi @joshgondelman.bsky.social Update to my peptalk request from several months ago when I was scared about applying for a visa and moving to the UK from NYC to be with my husband…my plane landed this morning and now I am in my new home & we are deliriously happy! Drunkenly made a low-ball offer on a Sherlock meerkat on eBay and it was accepted. We now have Sherlock, Poirot, Robin Hood, and Henry VIII. Apparently my husband and I are 70-year-old grandmas.

Having to move overseas means a book culling. This sucks and I hate it. Currently moving things back and forth between save and donate piles and trying to not cry.

Gregory T. Monkey got a bath at the laundromat today. Despite my best efforts (putting him in a pillowcase), his nose got scuffed up. I felt terrible, but he told me he thinks the scars make him look tough.

So the good thing about underground power lines is that in 15 years in Bushwick I’ve never lost power during a storm before. The bad thing if something does go wrong manhole covers can explode and set two cars on fire!
Thankfully it doesn’t seem like anyone was hurt and we finally have power back
