There was pushback nationally against the KKK --the YWCA and NAACP coordinated programming in northern cities to combat the KKK as Black Americans were migrating north for work in big cities.

Great stuff. My wife's late uncle Stanton Gage was Mauldin's roommate in college in Chicago. He too was an illustrator who was killed in Army Air Corps over Germany, Sept 1944. And he also did cartoons and sketches about life in his outfit. Oh, how his career would have turned out, similar to BM's?
