idk, i’ve seen a lot of issues with DAs that were able to bypass council’s approval and got to state government or were approved by court, @philipthalis.bsky.social must also know about these cases by being on panels
i’m keen to hear how to improve the system because ultimately we want better design

as a council urban designer, i would never request a change that would impact amenity unless it was caused by a serious non compliance, it all seems very absurd and disappointing! but i’ve had my share of disagreements with DA planners, i can definitely understand the frustration

there’s pre-DAs but it’s just a council review prior to the official lodge of a DA. Some councils allow them to be reviewed by Design Excellence panels. but my experience is that these generally improve the DA. Regardless, it’s odd that the amendments requested by council would reduce the amenity!
