We are analysing:
🔹 Transposition into national law of the European directive which reduces the limits of exposure to asbestos
🔹 Missing EU legislative proposal for screening, registration and monitoring of asbestos in buildings
🔹 Need for more inspections
🔹 Need for more training
🔹 Good practices

👷‍♂️🏗️The European social partners are today in Copenhagen, Denmark, in the context of the decentralised thematic social dialogue for the construction industry (DESOCO) to discuss what is being done and what is still missing at European level, but also the state of play at national level.

We congratulate Viana Alleva, President UNIA, and Nico Lutz, member of the Board and responsible for construction, for their re-election. The EFBWW wishes them all the best and looks forward to a closer and deeper collaboration in the future.

In his speech, EFBWW President Bruno Bothua reminded about our joint priorities: fight for democracy and against the Far Right, fight against social dumping, fight to limit subcontracting and for direct jobs, fight for safe and healthy workplaces.

🔹More digital tools for enforcement, including sectoral labour cards.

In this context the EFBWW welcomes the intention of the Commission to present a Quality Jobs Act and Fair Labour Mobility Package in 2026. The EFBWW calls: Time to Act!

To address this, we need a construction sector that invests in:
🔹Skills and competences
🔹Innovation
🔹Sustainable business models based on fair competition.
🔹Quality jobs.

The EFBWW warned that the European construction sector today is not ready for the massive challenges ahead. It is highly fragmented and suffers from considerable labour shortages due to a general lack of attractiveness.

Any Affordable Housing Plan should recognise that decent and affordable housing is a fundamental human right and should be part of a larger social agenda.
