Ian McDonald has a slew of great books but most are more recent than the 1980’s. I think River of Gods might be my favorite.

AI is everywhere we go. I have to fight the culturally hard-wired reflex to reply with a thank you when it takes my fast food order. I think AI has the capacity to be very useful. I see it today in the medical field. Much less so in the arts.

A deadly thin carbon dioxide atmosphere, deadly perchlorates in the regolith, no ionosphere, no liquid water: what am I missing here that makes Mars hostile to life? It sure isn’t a viable Plan B and Plan A can still work. Plan A is don’t destroy Earth.

Many women, including myself, have experienced the authorities blaming us for being assaulted by an assailant. The difference here is I wasn't then threatened again by the very authorities I attempted to get help from.
