We have this cool year of democracy we’re doing here (classes, talks, community and student events). I wish we’d turn the volume up to 11 on it.

Harman Kaur has a cool new experiment out about ML practitioners and interpretability tools. She finds that while they're intended to help, they can impair understanding. Practitioners spent 5x less time on task, and were 17% less accurate with access to them.

Last week, we organized a CCC/CRA visioning workshop on "The Future of Research on Social Technologies." It was all discussion, no panels.
CRA paid for a graphic recorder too, (!) who drew meeting topics and highlights in real time on giant pieces of paper, and now I want one all the time.

This doesn’t really capture it, but I appreciate Ann Arbor’s city planners so much in the Fall. My daily commute looks like this right now.
