This week, at a roundtable with Commissioner Roswall and stakeholders from across the #plastics value chain, we made it clear:

Measures to support the #recycling sector must also help us achieve our long-term goals - a safe #CircularEconomy aligned with EU #climate and zero pollution objectives.

With @umwelthilfe.bsky.social & @ecos.ngo, we call on @ec.europa.eu to make the revised EU e-waste law truly impactful, with binding measures to:

☑️ Address #overconsumption
☑️ Prevent #waste
☑️ Promote reuse, #repair, and proper collection
☑️ Hold producers accountable

The facts:

👉Over 14.4 million tonnes of #electronics were sold in the EU in 2023, +89% since 2012
👉The biggest consumers were the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, France and Italy
👉 #Ewaste collection rates remain alarmingly low, especially in Cyprus, Malta, Portugal, the Netherlands and Hungary

This digital manipulation fuels:

Consumer protection laws are slowly catching up, but digital innovation is moving much faster. It’s time for fair rules that protect both consumers and the planet.

Meanwhile, Europe is facing an #e-waste crisis.

Together with a broad coalition of environmental organisations, we urge the EU to take bold and immediate action to mitigate the environmental damage caused by Europe’s growing dependence on #electronics.

To save emissions and resources, the EU's new law on vehicles must require a minimum share of recycled materials to be included in new cars

This is particularly important for #vehicles and #ewaste, as they contain tons of valuable materials with a high environmental footprint - from steel to precious and rare metals.

Meanwhile, the #EUEcolabel is gaining momentum!

New figures published on #WorldEcoilabelDay show an upward trend, with more than 109 000 certified goods and services - a 7% rise since March 2025.
