Instead I got dessert from Daniel's Donuts in Southern Cross Station, which also came recommended! 'Twas not a bad shout indeed!

But not before I went out and had an awesome steak dinner at Yappari Steak under @veratan.bsky.social's recommendation. Oh lord. It was so good. Why is food in Melbourne SO GOOD how is this fair to meeee

Hey @paxaus.bsky.social not sure if you can help or not but I've lost a very special pin in the shape of the Sarawak flag from my late father - possibly on the premises on the PAX showfloor (or at least I only noticed it was missing after visiting the floor and returning to my hotel room)

And for dinner? A vegan burger from Royal Stacks in Melbourne city proper and man oh man, I honestly could not tell this patty was not beef proper. It even has the kind of slight pink to the "meat" to seal the illusion, along with great mouthfeel and texture.

Also, took my yearly pilgrimage to Critical Hit, an anime and Japanese gaming weeaboo merchandise and toys store in Melbourne and was about to walk away without getting anything (being an old boo can be hard if you're not into currently popular stuff) but then I saw THIS

And the supermarkets? holy shit. There was SO much, both in terms if quantity and quality of goods offered. An entire section devoted to vegan foods, which included vegan laksa paste (!) and vegan SALMON SASHIMI (!!!) dear lord. But for me, the two items in the picture below are what made my day.

First stop was O'Town where I had the chicken curry laksa special for first lunch, then went to tour the chinese supermarkets with Vera (and an official Bandai gashapon centre) followed by chicken rice for second lunch with my cousin. If you're ever in Melbourne, make that trip to O'Town!

First meal was a dinner of Sal's pizza! A nice authentic New York slice! Gotta admit, didn't really fell it this time - maybe I should have just stuck with classic pepperoni instead of pepperoni, jalapenos and *looks at notes* honey?

Decided to make it a list of my first ten licenses and key activations because I was there when Half-Life 2 just got released and there was this thing called "Steam" that got bundled with it? And you could add license keys on the CD cover to it and make it a permanent part of your library? Wild!

There's even a story lightly running through the entire game about an aspiring actor trying to meet a movie star to ask how a rhombus like them could ever achieve success, and that's just a fun little garnish on top of an already great dish of a game. A fun little game to knock out over the weekend!

That said, one particular interaction tickled me: a group of mercenary aliens tried shaking me down for gold, and after I blasted enough of them over several solar systems, they came back to me saying "if we pay YOU gold, will you stop breaking all our stuff?". That got a genuine laugh out of me.

So when Zoey Kpop Demon Hunter was sporting her casual incognito threads, my first thought was "wow that outfit is so Asian mom-coded" followed by "oh man there's no way I can explain that huh?" BUT FORTUNATELY my mother's wardrobe provides! God, this jacket is probably almost as old as me.

So when Zoey Kpop Demon Hunter was sporting her casual incognito threads, my first thought was "wow that outfit is so Asian mom-coded" followed by "oh man there's no way I can explain that huh?" BUT FORTUNATELY my mother's wardrobe provides! God, this jacket is probably almost as old as me.
At 8 hours long it doesn't overstay its welcome, which does makes some of the third act developments feel a bit rushed - especially the way the two leads start fighting as the result of boil-over from simmering resentments, but it kinda feels like it comes out of nowhere? 0 to 100 a bit too quickly!

Today's the second anniversary of my dad's passing, and mom and I went to Salam Charcoal Kebab House for lunch, which is a place I think he would have loved if he had the chance to try it. The kebabs were amazing, and as a lamb-lover my dad would have been in food coma heaven.
