There was a marvellous performance of this work in the most recent Bruckner cycle in the Concertgebouw, under Manze, clearly a believer in this work. Qua recordings, I’m very much impressed by Chailly’s rendering of the Haas edition with the KCO.

There are at least three recent recordings which all offer fresh perspectives at least to my ears…

Yes, Christoph von Dohnányi’s father Hans played a pivotal role in the German resistance movement. The now-famous resistance theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was an uncle of Christoph, he was his mother’s brother.
