On Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom.

The freedom to be who you want and to follow your dreams.

The freedom to live without fear and to follow your principles even when challenged.

The freedom to believe in science and medical advances.

A quote from Nancy Arroyo Ruffi.

A reminder to be your beautiful self and take risks, even if you are scared. We only grow when we challenge ourselves. If you are looking to try something new, give it a go. You may find it really hard, but true failure would be never trying.

I have seen many posts from scientists who are leaving their government positions within various branches of the NIH, CDC, FDA etc. because they won't compromise their ethics or values by working for the current administration. This is in addition to those who have been removed from positions.

I also encourage you to feed some porcupines and touch a sloth which was definitely my favorite part of my vacation! The Wildlife Learning Center was amazing and if you are in SoCal should be on your todo list!

I had a very large attendance which I am very happy with. The more people I can teach how to successfully negotiate, the happier I am! Once I had sent all those emails I put up my out of office reply as my parents came to visit for 3 weeks.

A few weeks ago, I presented my most popular presentation at the National Postdoctoral Association Annual Meeting. I then sent what felt like hundreds of emails to the attendees with my budget template and negotiation handout.

A very positive opening address for the #NPA annual conference. "You are not alone" from Tom Kimbis the executive director. They are dedicated to continue advocating DEIA initiatives. #NPA2025AC #Postdocs #Research #STEM

I've been thinking a lot about this quote from Susan Wojcicki. I believe she is encouraging you to take the risk to do something new because it is unlikely that a perfect, risk-free opportunity will land in your lap. If you want to do it, you need to be willing to take the risk.

8 years ago, as the chair of the board of directors of the NPA, I gave the opening address of the annual meeting. It was the first time this much pink was on stage for an NPA event!

I will be presenting at the NPA meeting on negotiating salary on Saturday. Will this jacket make a return?!

Updating my negotiation talk to be specific to Boston. I tailor it each time so it is always different! Are you attending the National Postdoctoral Association Annual Conference in a few weeks? I hope to see you there!

I certainly felt that one! I've noticed a number of much smaller ones recently from the earthquake bots but haven't felt any of them.

There is so much happening in STEMM, research and education that it is natural to feel overwhelmed. At this point so many different groups of people have been "thrown to the wolves" that there may be many "packs", but they all need to work together to gain traction.

Here we go. I'm trying not to think of food and drinks as I'm hungry and thirsty now. But hopefully it will be over soon.

Round 2! I didn't think there could be more left but I was wrong. Let's hope i survive the school run without making a mess...

I saw this on @linkedin.com and thought I would share it. This is a great description of what DEI is.
