Dogs will very often react aggressively/defensively when their owners are under threat. Gilbert was probably not killed senselessly. He was likely killed specifically because he had the great virtue of all dogs: loyalty.

I agree with your assessment of his character, but I don't lay this solely at Trump's feet. He never could have risen to the head of the Republican party if this were not already their core. People don't turn evil because a snake oil salesman tells them to. They make a choice to follow.

Dogs are loyal creatures. Most often, if you hurt their people in front of them, they'll defend or attack.

This guy had been a "security consultant"/mercenary before. Poor Gilbert was likely just collateral consideration in his diseased mind.

He worked for the Harper government quite directly. He was employed doing video work for the CPC caucus, and worked under Prentice for a time. He worked for O'Toole in election prep. He's been tied in tight with them at several points.

Ah, Canada Proud/Ballingall. The guy that, as soon as the numbers were in and the Liberals had won the last election, swore he would take down the government as soon as possible.

Clearly illustrating Poilievre's "sincerity" in being willing to work with the Liberals for the good of Canada.

The First Nations being able to stop this rests on the notion that their rights will finally be upheld. It's possible, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

And then I'm sure there'd be a Republican outcry to "bring freedom" to the Alberta oil fields. Kind of like the way Putin played Crimea

I think we can put "discovered" in quotation marks as well. With the amount of time and taxpayers' money Smith has spent on her jaunts down to Mar-a-Lago to hobnob with the Republican elites and the Fox News mainstays, I think it's safe to say that this was on the agenda.

In a conflict of ideologies with a moral centre, ma'am, if we choose to start acting like the thing we oppose, then we've lost the fight.

The idea is to be better. Poilievre himself may be reprehensible, his children, however, are innocents.

Also worth noting that the Catholic board has to abide by the same rules as the public. While they'd be better off merging the two boards financially (though the Catholic teachers make less on average, the dual bureaucracy is a financial hit), the education is equal and not isolationist.

And of course the part where she explicitly says she suggested to the US administration that they "put things on pause" to influence Canada's election. Which very well may be a violation of federal election laws.

Thanks for posting the full thing as well! More context is always better.
