The Dropkick Murphys should cover The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot.
I know labor solidarity has always been core to the band. That was also one of the reasons Gordon Lightfoot felt compelled to write “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Perhaps now, 50 years after the wreck would be apropos for these 2 to come together.

Pretty good. Thanks for sharing.
I still do wonder what it would sound like in the hands of Dropkick Murphys.

Given the song’s musical and lyrical themes, the 50th anniversary would be the perfect opportunity for a rerecording of the track by @dropkickmurphys.com

The song was included on the album Summertime Dream. And when it was released as the 2nd single, it went to #2 on the Hot 100 chart

“The Wreck of The Edmond Fitzgerald” began as an Irish dirge, but inspired by the shipwreck, Lightfoot included many facts from the Newsweek article. And recorded the song December, 1975.

Gordon Lightfoot read a Newsweek article about the wreck, and feeling that it didn’t sufficiently honor the crew wrote “The Wreck of The Edmond Fitzgerald”
The Edmund Fitzgerald sank 50 years ago today. The next year, the singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot chronicled the tragedy in an unlikely hit single.

When a storm hit on November 10, 1975, a rogue wave perhaps exploited this defect. Splitting the ship, sending it to the bottom of Lake Superior with its Captain and crew.

The ship was known to have a structural defect, however repairs were delayed as Bethlehem Steel Corporation intended to lengthen the ship after the 1975 season was completed. A decision that put the lives of the crew at risk.
