One suggestion I’ve seen up here is copying the BBS forms and just keep doing our routes the next few years until our friends to the south decide to overthrow the dictator like they’ve been telling us they’ve been prepping for the past few decades.

Interestingly enough, this is as least fresh a male duck’s feathers will be. Males moult over the summer, thus why you don’t see breeding-plumaged males in June and July. The hooded merganser looks to have already started.
