Not all Time Magazine cover theologians were admirable. This appeared when I was a new Christian convert exploring TEC. After reading the article, I nearly looked for another church. Happily, I remembered that CSL was also an Anglican; so there was still a place for orthodoxy in TEC. I stayed!

Even the 1979 Daily Office lectionary leaves out a good deal. This year, as a spiritual discipline, I’ve been reading the 1662 lectionary - four chapters per day. Challenging but powerful!

C. S. Lewis wrote an essay entitled “Miserable Offenders,” in which he defends this language, pastorally and theologically. I pray MP daily for in Rite I, and always insert the deleted words into the Confession.
