A "power lie" is a lie used to gain dominance, control, or a sense of empowerment over others, often through deception and misinformation to elevate oneself. Can be part of pathological lying, where the liar's motivation is to appear superior, gaslight victims, or maintain control in a situation.

I really enjoyed his fluids book as a student. I lent a copy out to a friend and it never came back which is a shame as it was a great reference and I had always hoped to teach from it one day.

I have seen undergraduate TAs terminated for not complying and even a graduate TA (though we did rehire them once they realized they stopped being paid and completed the training). Would be a good HR question "what's the most important title you've reaped for non compliance."
