I get it for something like "Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound", which has a history on NES, and is tapping that nostalgia. It's just weird when they tap into that style with no history(like where sprites were small due to console/memory limitations).

I get how you feel... But I would focus on building character. "Things" matter far less - particularly with how we feel about ourselves. No need to change one's self, can just accentuate one's own virtues.
