I'd steer clear of historical takes on accuracy of "The Wind Rises" on the Blueskeeters.

Also allies were more adaptable in most respects (even the British!). Both tactically (thatch weave, Combat Commands) and in modifications (Hello Pappy Gunn) leading to improved design back home.
