I think this is a great example of how athletes can use thier platform to inspire change in the environment and bring awareness to climate change. We talked in class about how athletes are powerful, having the ability to influence their following in many ways to create positive change.

This sounds like a great experience and an awesome way to learn more about different cultures and their customs! It‘s a very impressive that you got to partake in the second largest competition next to the Olympics. I have never heard about the Dance World Cup and would love to learn more about it!

We talked about how it‘s controversial for athletes to talk about politics. This article explains how athletes can use their platforms to advocate for change and inspire young people. Some athletes that talk about politics are, LeBron James, Megan Rapinoe and Colin Kapernick.

I agree that the media goes to far in reporting on athletes and their personal lives, which undoubtedly violates their privacy and has negative consequences on their mental health. It not only affect the lives of the athletes but also their families who usually get brought into the media as well.

Woman’s sports are under covered in the media, with only 3% of articles being about woman’s sports, according to research. Also, if woman's sports do get coverage in the media, they emphasize their roles as mothers and wife’s, reinforcing stereotypes and gender roles.

The inequality and lack of representation does not stop with female journalists, but expands even larger into the lack of coverage of women’s sports.

This is probably one of the most famous acts of criminal violence in sports history. There has always been a controversy over if she knew of the attack or if was involved in planning it. Do you think she knew about the assault and didn’t stop it? And do you think her punishment was valid?

This is a great example of how people can use deviance to help change social norms and stigma in sports. They used deviance to stand up for what they believe in and protest against societal norms, which is admirable and inspirational.

An athlete that came to mind when talking about deviance was Tonya Harding, as she famously attacked her rival, Nancy Kerrigan. Her behaviour was widely known as deviant, violating the ethics and norms of sports, harming another athlete, and being an example of negative deviance.

Thanks for sharing! I have never heard of a food swamp before and was very interested in the article you provided. I did not think about how the food accessible to people can deeply affect their performance in sports, contributing to obesity, health issues and more.

Female athletes sustain different injuries than male athletes, which contributes to the stereotype that woman are weaker than men. For example, woman are more prone to ACL injuries, which can be a long and hard recovery and can even affect the long term health of an athlete.

This is a great example of how athletes can redefine gender norms! I recently started knitting and have found it an effective way to relax and destress. I never thought about how knitting could help athletes stay focused and succeed in sports.

Going for walks on your breaks would be a great stress relief while staying active during work. I also think it’s a good idea to have some equipment at home. The only thing is that I would have a hard time staying motivated working out at home. Do you think this would be an issue for you?

I have a passion for Jiujitsu and consistently train 5 days a week. With a full time career, I would still want to train Jiujitsu but it would be hard for me to train 5 days a week. My schedule would change, as I could only train on the weekends and would go for runs before work to stay active.

I loved how you used an example that’s familiar to the community! I was unaware of how many youth centred programs we have here at the university. It sounds like a great way for kids to have fun and express themselves. Would you consider being involved in one of the youth programs?

I agree on your definition of sport! I think the mental aspects of sports are important for strategy and stress management but don’t encompass the physical and institutionalized aspect of sports. Would you consider competitive walking as a sport?
