But I say that "sanitized" is different from "sterilized."
Cooking them to 165 F. should take care of any nasty microbes.

I think sterilization would require a high temperature that would cook them.
I'm not an expert, but cooking them (or anything) to 165 degrees F. will generally protect against microorganisms.
