It was a delightful surprise to hear political scientist Adom Getachew narrating the tour of Project a Black Planet, an exhibition on Pan-Africanism at the Art Institute of Chicago today. Turns out she was one of the curators. If you’re in town for #ISA2025, go check it out!

Also worth highlighting: we found an inverse relationship between how positive & how specific/constructive student feedback was. Female faculty received feedback that was more detailed in telling them how to improve. They are evaluated in the same way as male faculty only when they give high grades!

This reminds me of the time, early in the pandemic, when it took me several minutes to figure out that this calendar entry I had made referred to planning for my Civil Wars seminar, and not, like, an actual insurrection 😂

I was not aware of this change! In past years, on-site childcare at APSA was crucial in enabling me to attend. Plus, where else are babies supposed to wear their correlation/causation onesies??

New article out today co-authored w/ @miweintraub83.bsky.social! We survey local security officials in Colombia about how armed groups responded to the pandemic, finding little evidence they capitalized on it to expand control of territory or civilian life

Students have loved when we pair scholarship w/ long form journalism or a podcast episode. I have them ID passages in the latter that illustrate or challenge arguments/concepts in the former. Here are a few combos that have worked well in Intro IR
