Everyone in tech should have to work helpdesk at least once. Aspiring dad band vocalist. Chicagoan.
Some Chuy folks (and maybe the man himself) never really got over a lot of his core 2015 support defecting to Brandon last time. Sad to see him disrespect the voters on his way out.

I keep getting texts and some targeted social in Logan Square from this very well-funded Super PAC.

The year is 2027. Every single Microsoft app is now called Copilot. CEO Satya Copilot takes the stage. Goes Full Ballmer demanding more pilots. Musical guest Twenty One Pilots begins to play.

I'd also like to see federal regulation akin to SOX with externally audited change mgmt requirements on the data platforms under big AI services, with Right To Remove and maybe rate limits on how they hit unaffiliated third parties.

(Anyway, appreciate you letting me blow up your replies on this.)

I could see things working out fine for the NYTs and Disneys who can gate their content and don't need to offer much for free to entice discovery. Tougher if you're not already an established brand and clearly a social issue if staying well-informed gets even more expensive.

It's that initial attention or marketing part I'm not sure about. Online media providers are already getting wise to the scraping and AI labs are going to be in a tough spot having burned all these bridges. Constant need for new data is an underappreciated weakness for them.

I think these guys fundamentally misunderstand how organizations work, but data regulations will also frustrate them eventually. IP lobby is too strong to lose all these suits.

In the meantime, though, yes, they'll spend a lot of other people's money and be long gone before it's clear they failed.

I know you were very involved in that earlier wave. Maybe some answers there in navigating a more decentralized landscape?

Distribution in the 2010s obviously got very consolidated on the big social platforms, contra the first party sites and blogosphere that preceded it. Now more opaque, private channels are ascendant again, for better and worse.

But I sort of welcome the reset?

One thought is that AI will continue to reduce reflexive trust in digital content, making the value of known and verifiable providers greater or more apparent.

Deeply enjoyed this. Thank you.
