Alabama had 12th highest rate of increase in # of incarcerated between 2021-2022. Only 10 had higher rates of imprisonment in 2021. alabamaappleseed.org/author/eddie...

A women who’s helped me keep track of Alabama’s prisons is in an ICU with serious medical conditions, and she’s still sending me info. “I can’t stop” she told me today from the hospital.

Was interviewed today by a journalist working on a story on Alabama's prisons and the notion that long sentences keep us safer.

I explained that nothing in our prisons is increasing safety outside. Violence and drugs abound. No real substance abuse treatment, and 95% will be released some day.

Ronnie Peoples has stage 4 cancer and has served 32 years of a life without sentence for a 1991 robbery in which no one was hurt. His sentence was enhanced by Alabama’s harsh Habitual Felony Offender Act because of prior robberies in the 1970s.

Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles is broken. Out of 31 up for parole the board denied 30.
