a nice memory from the last week: a student in Wisconsin, Emma, wrote me a note after a talk about the book. Emma was very modest, saying I didn’t have to keep the page - but I’ve been thinking that these drawings were cool and should be shared to brighten the world.

For Lunar New Year, I drew the Year of the Snake with two things in mind: the LA fires and a need to shed bad energy. In folklore throughout the Eastern hemisphere, the snake is commonly associated with intelligence, resilience, and love - all attributes we’ll need for the year ahead.

a nice benefit of drawing by hand has been my 92-year-old grandmother comparing my sketchbook and the final book in the last few days - she’s seen me draw since childhood, but this was the first time she got to see the book since its publication in April ☺️
