#Trump now wants a 50% US government stake in #tiktok, run in partnership with his #technoligarchs. Sounds very reminiscent of such authoritarian regimes as Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and Communist China. What could possibly go wrong?

A new word has entered the language… #technoligarch …defined as a member of the cabal manipulating #Trump and his administration as their #Usefulidiots to achieve their nefarious aims.

Perhaps the Algonquin people have a word…
…Windigo. According to most Algonquian oral traditions, a windigo is a cannibalistic monster that preys on the weak and socially disconnected. In most versions of the legend, a human becomes a windigo after his or her spirit is corrupted by greed.

I hate to agree with Dump, but this realignment of the border makes sense. Just rename Jesusland to Redneckistan.

Telling that @economist.com has selected ‘kakistocracy’, or rule of the worst, as its Word of the Year. ‘Ochlocracy’, or rule of the mob, got an honourable mention.

Maybe combined, ‘thugocracy’, will emerge as a new entry.

Conservatives love to accuse progressive politicians and & premiers of being spendthrifts. But as the record clearly shows, they're no better — and often far worse — when it comes to keeping government spending in check. www.nationalobserver.com/2024/12/06/o...
Canada's Conservative leaders break the bank while preaching prudence
For all their talk about being fiscally prudent, Conservative politicians in Canada have more or less abandoned the idea of balancing the budget.

Local libraries are about so much more than books. They are community gathering places in a world where a sense of belonging is vanishing.

Just finished Robin Wall Kimmerer’s wonderful book, ‘Serviceberries’. Her description of the gift economy is a blueprint for a gentler and sustainable society. #sustainability #regenerativeecobomy
