Dr. Emily Ireland’s paper examines “Legal Personhood and Subordination Under the English Common Law, 1689-1760”. Using an intersectional analysis, the paper pays attention to those whose legal status was modified in some way, e.g. married women, children, enslaved people and the mentally unwell.
