I have been mentoring a refugee family from Afghanistan for about 5 months. I have learned a lot about myself, administrative burden, the immigrant experience, and America. As an "education person", seeing American school communications thru their eyes is wild.

You can see that here too. Among students with similar test scores, students in the bottom 40% by parental income are more likely to enroll @ Harvard than students in the top 1%. Yet Harvard is full of rich kids because the relationship between parental income and test scores is so steep!

This is a way bigger deal than the excess admissions of very rich kids at 12 universities, conditional on test scores. I am glad the NYT is reporting on this. SES differences in academic preparation at the time of college application are simply enormous.
