breaking news: Lucy (Rs) pulled the football again, and Charlie Brown (MSM) fell down.

Trump is 6'1", best seen in pictures with Obama -- they are about the same height. Trump is a couple of inches shorter than Gavin Newsom (6'3"). Trump may have shrunk since then.

the investment could also be over several years.

Aaron, it is a stretch but GDP is not a limiting factor for investment: GDP is the value of goods & services produced within a year, and the resources available for investment could include the valuation of stocks, bonds, real estate, and what the country can borrow -- different things.

My lungs would burn if I went for a run on a smoggy day in LA in early 80s
Things that are better now in US than then:
- crime way down
- pollution way down
- life expectancy up +/- 2 yrs (wld be closer to 5 w/o disastrous Covid response)
- real income of median worker + 15%
- bread, coffee & beer!!
November 11, 2025 at 11:29 PM
An objective measure of whether avg ppl are better off at one point in time vs another is real median wages, which are up about 15% since the mid-1980s in the US. That's not a lot, less than 1/2 a percent per year, but it is up. And it includes housing (the biggest weight in a price index).

credible estimates of the point at which the Laffer curve peaks (and thus lower taxes lead to more revenue) is a top marginal tax rate of about 70%. In the US it is currently less than 40%, so we are miles from the Laffer curve being relevant.

it seems dumb to argue this point using anecdotes, when there is data! Houses are much less affordable now simply because incomes have gone up by much less than house prices.

Republicans have been pretty successful with lying for the past few decades. Yes they do lie more than Dems do, by a wide margin.
November 9, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Also -- those Republicans sure do a lot of standing around while each other talk. At my place of work that is called being unproductive!

Johnson is right, core inflation is near its lowest level in 4 yrs. The problem is that under Biden it was steadily coming down, but under Trump it has stopped coming down -- it has flatlined at about 3% for the last several months.

Maybe Jake Tapper should look into it

going from 4 billion to 8 billion is not "many fold". It is two fold. And that was during a global pandemic.
