Excited to share our new #Nature article published yesterday. It showed that rainfall variability is almost as important as total annual rainfall amount in determining global vegetation dynamics.

Led by Feldman, with Konings, Gentine, Cattry, Smith, Biederman, Chatterjee, Joiner & Poulter
Today's Nature Climate Change issue highlighted our recent article led by @dficklin.bsky.social.

We showed that greening vegetation strongly mitigates flooding impacts on the land surface.

My master’s student Carlynn’s first-ever publication! Congratulations!!

We showed that fog water 18O changes unexpectedly after long-term storage (in years). Rain and dew samples are fine after long-term storage.

Effects of Long‐Term Storage on the Isotopic Compositions of Different Types of Environmental Waters
Rationale Fog, dew, and rain are crucial for sustaining ecosystem functions, especially in water-limited regions. However, they are subject to isotopic changes during storage due to their usual smal...

Starting the new year with a family hike at the Starkey park of our small town Zionsville in Indiana. It’s 2 mile hike and we survived the muddy/flooding section :)

Really interesting work here from @dficklin.bsky.social and a stellar cast of coauthors: 'Vegetation Greening Mitigates the Impacts of Increasing Extreme Rainfall on Runoff Events' agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Vegetation Greening Mitigates the Impacts of Increasing Extreme Rainfall on Runoff Events
The number and magnitude of extreme rainfall events are projected to increase throughout the global land surface Projected declines in event-based runoff ratio are found for a majority of the glo...

New pub in Earth Future. We showed increasing flooding events are NOT as much as rainfall increase. Why? Plants are helping us.
